Sutaj Estok: This Year May Bring Opportunity to Do Things More Sensibly

Bratislava, 1 January (TASR) - The year 2026 may bring an opportunity to do things in a more sensible manner than before, to experiment less and be less guided by emotions and more by common sense, Voice-SD chairman and Interior Minister Matus Sutaj Estok has stated in his New Year address on social media. "The new year won't bring us miracles, and it would be dishonest to promise them. What it can bring us, however, is an opportunity to do things more sensibly than before, to experiment less ... to be less guided by emotions and more by common sense. The state should function in a predictable, understandable, and, above all, fair manner, not as a laboratory of ideas that change direction every few months," he said. According to the Voice-SD leader, people have the right to know what they can expect from the state, and the state has a duty to fulfil those expectations. He also believes that internal security within society is important, as is the ability to engage in debate without hatred, to disagree without resorting to insults and to seek solutions rather than blame. Sutaj Estok admitted that last year wasn't easy and that Slovakia was facing uncertainty, ongoing conflicts and the consequences of global crises affecting the lives of its citizens. "We too are feeling the effects of global crises and geopolitical decisions. At the same time, however, not everything that we are dissatisfied with is the result of external circumstances. We ourselves bear some of the responsibility for how we run the country, how we approach our work, how we respect the rules and how we behave towards one another," he said. am/df
