Bratislava Airport Expects Record 2.4 million Passengers This Year

Bratislava, 27 December (TASR) - M.R. Stefanik Airport in Bratislava expects to break its previous record for passenger numbers set in 2018, when it handled almost 2.3 million passengers. "The number of passengers handled for the whole of this year should exceed 2.4 million, thanks in part to the new flight routes added to the winter flight schedule, which will be the highest number of passengers handled since the airport was set up in 1951, that is in its entire 74 years of operation," spokesperson for Bratislava Airport Veronika Demovicova told TASR. In the first eleven months of this year, Slovakia's largest airport recorded a total of 2.2 million passengers arriving and departing, which was 21 percent more than in the same period last year. An important milestone for the airport in 2025 was the resumption of domestic flights between Bratislava and Kosice after almost seven years. Since November 21, these flights have been operated nine times a week by Wizz Air, which set up its base at the airport on 14 November. "The occupancy rate of domestic flights on the Bratislava-Kosice route has met expectations since the launch of operations and demonstrates the interest in this air connection. Currently, tickets for the Bratislava-Kosice route can be purchased from Wizz Air until the end of 2026," noted Demovicova. In 2025, M.R. Stefanik Airport announced a record number of new regular flights, specifically 28 completely new routes, with further new connections already announced for 2026. A significant historical milestone at the airport was the opening of the Wizz Air base, which expanded its network of routes from Bratislava from the original two to 30 regular routes. "After ten years, Ryanair has also expanded its base in Bratislava from two to three aircraft based there since October and announced its historically record summer of 2026 with 33 regular destinations," said the airport spokeswoman. am/mcs/mf
