Bratislava, 20 December (TASR) - Hungarian low-cost airline Wizz Air is operating regular flights from Bratislava to Alicante, Oslo and Athens as of 15 December, Dusan Novota, director of M. R. Stefanik airport in Bratislava, has informed TASR, adding that these routes have been supplemented by four more direct ones to Basel (Switzerland), Nis (Serbia) and the Italian cities of Naples and Palermo as of 16 December.
"On Monday (15 December), Wizz Air added a second base aircraft to its Bratislava base. Two more will be added in the spring of 2026," said the Bratislava airport chief. The carrier will thus have a total of four Airbus A321neo aircraft with a capacity of 239 seats based at the largest Slovak airport, which will make it possible to launch new air routes.
"Thanks to our cooperation with Wizz Air, passengers have a wider range of options for departures from and arrivals to Bratislava, which contributes to the development of tourism and Bratislava airport," added Novota.
"The launch of new direct flights between Oslo and Bratislava is an important step towards making Slovakia more accessible for travellers from northern Europe," said Daniela Bezakova, head of national tourism organisation Slovakia Travel's foreign representation for Nordic countries.
Since establishing its base at Bratislava airport on 14 November, Wizz Air has started offering new routes to Barcelona, Lamezia Terme (Italy), Plovdiv, Varna (both Bulgaria), Malaga (Spain), and, as of 21 November, Kosice. Previously, it had been operating flights to London Luton Airport and Skopje (Macedonia) for a long time. As of October, it opened a route to Bucharest Otopeni Airport. With the seven new routes, it will now operate a total of 16, with 13 more to be gradually introduced by the end of next March.
"Together, we'll offer as many as 29 routes from Bratislava in 2026. We'll provide 32 from Slovakia in total. Now, in December, we're launching seven new routes [from Bratislava - ed. note], adding new ones to Yerevan (Armenia) and Kutaisi (Georgia) in January, and we'll also introduce many new routes in March," said Wizz Air communications manager Olivia Harangozo.
Wizz Air will add routes from Bratislava to Larnaca (Cyprus) and Chisinau (Moldova) in January, to be followed by new ones to Berlin, Dortmund, Rome Fiumicino Airport, Tirana, Ohrid (North Macedonia), Pristina (Kosovo) and Tel Aviv, plus Chopin Airport in Warsaw and Tuzla (Bosnia and Herzegovina) in March.
