UDZS: More Than 124,000 People to Change Health Insurers as of Next Year

Bratislava, 16 December (TASR) - A total of 124,067 people will change their health-insurance company as of next year, up 9,424 year-on-year, with policyholders showing the highest interest in switching to private insurer Dovera, Monika Mrazova of the Healthcare Supervision Office (UDZS) informed TASR on Tuesday. Dovera will thus gain 22,688 new policyholders as of next year, while state-run Vseobecna Zdravotna Poistovna (VsZP) will lose 26,020 policyholders. The number of policyholders of private health insurer Union will increase by 3,332 in 2026. UDZS has registered 166,720 applications to change health-insurance companies this year, up 30,376 from 2024. Of them, 42,653 were not accepted, chiefly due to their withdrawal or duplicate applications submitted to several health insurance companies. The office specified that the municipalities with the highest reinsurance ratio per capita are situated in the poorest regions of Slovakia this year again, often with a high share of the Roma population. People are allowed to switch their health insurer once a year. They can do so by 30 September, with the change taking effect as of the following year. ko
