Bratislava, 15 December (TASR) - Vice-Premier and Environment Minister Tomas Taraba (a Slovak National Party/SNS nominee) will represent not only the interests of Slovakia but also those of the Czech Republic at the EU Council meeting of Environment Ministers on Tuesday (16 December), TASR was told by the Environment Ministry on Monday.
In this regard, he had a phone call with the newly appointed Czech Minister of Foreign Affairs, Petr Macinka, who is also in charge of the Czech Environment Ministry.
"Minister Petr Macinka asked me to represent the Czech Republic at the EU Council of Environment Ministers, which is due to to take place tomorrow in Brussels. I discussed this request during the visit of Mr. Macinka and Mr. Turek to Bratislava. Without hesitation, I accepted this assignment with great pleasure and respect," said Taraba.
For the head of the Slovak Environment Ministry, this is the first proof that Slovakia and the Czech Republic can form a very strong tandem in promoting common sense policies in Brussels. He is also convinced that this cooperation will become even more intensive and that both countries will contribute to strengthening the competitiveness of industry by eliminating bureaucracy and "senseless ideological environmental policies".
