Bratislava, 15 December (TASR) - I'm not aware of any facts that morally question the work of prosecutor Vasil Spirko at the Prosecutor-General's (PG) Office, Prosecutor-General Maros Zilinka has stated in a video posted on social media in response to statements made by Premier Robert Fico (Smer-SD) earlier in the day. According to Zilinka, the PG's authorities and prosecutors mustn't be influenced in their proceedings and decisions by anyone's partial or individual interests. "All procedures of law-enforcement bodies, as well as other entities involved in criminal proceedings, are regulated by the Criminal Procedure Code, and this applies to the handling of criminal complaints as well. This also applies to the criminal complaint filed by an advisor to the prime minister against a prosecutor of the Prosecutor-General's office concerning the matter of forged signatures. All matters are being dealt with and will be decided in accordance with the law. The complainant is well aware of this," stated Zilinka. Zilinka considers the prime minister's statements about Spirko to be an attack on the Prosecutor-General's Office and an attempt to discredit the prosecutor and the prosecution service as a whole. "I consider this to be unacceptable in a democratic and legal state," he said, adding that it's also an attack on the credibility and gravity of the prosecution service. am/df
