Cadca, 15 December (TASR) - The tapping of the foundation stone on Monday symbolically marked the start of the construction work on the shortest of the three missing sections of the D3 motorway in the Kysuce area in Zilina region. The project involves completing the right profile on the section between Oscadnica and Cadca with a total length of 5.3 kilometres, including the second tube of the Horelica tunnel. The work is expected to take 1,675 days. "We're delighted that we've finally managed to kick-start the construction of the D3 motorway. This is the first section on which we're tapping the foundation stone. It is the northernmost, shortest, but technically most complex section, which is why the contractual construction period is until 2030, while for the remaining two sections the construction period is until 2029," said Transport Minister Jozef Raz (a Smer-SD nominee). The most advantageous bid in the public tender for the construction of the section was submitted by a consortium of three construction companies headed by Vahostav, which along with Metrostav DS and Duna Aszfalt undertook to build the project for €230.4 million, ex-VAT. According to National Highway Company (NDS) director Filip Machacek, work will begin on the remaining two sections soon. "The remaining two sections are very similar to this stretch. After New Year, we'll tap the foundation stones for these sections as well, and the contractors will be able to start work," he noted. am/df
