Kosice, 14 December (TASR) - Kosice Airport has reached another historic milestone, welcoming on Friday (12 December) its 800,000th passenger in a single year for the first time, airport spokesman Juraj Toth told TASR, adding that this rapid growth confirms the steadily increasing demand for air travel in the region and the strong position of Kosice among regional airports in Central Europe. Nikola became the 800,000th passenger, traveling with her family on a trip to Bratislava on Wizz Air's recently launched domestic route. According to the airport, this connection has quickly become a popular choice for many passengers looking for a fast and comfortable connection between the two largest Slovak cities. "Reaching the milestone of 800,000 passengers is an exceptional achievement for our entire team. This growth reflects the trust of passengers, the determination of our team of employees, and the strong partnerships we've built with airlines and other partners," said Kosice Airport director Thomas Dworschak. According to Wizz Air's communications director Andras Rado, the Kosice-Bratislava route has exceeded expectations since its launch. "We're looking forward to further strengthening our presence in Kosice and offering passengers even more opportunities to discover Europe, for example through the new route from Kosice to Rome, which will launch on 31 March next year," he said. According to Kosice Airport, the results for 2025 confirm the long-term upward trend in passenger numbers. am/jrg
