Special Session on Energy Aid Won't Be Held, MPs Fail to Pass Agenda

Bratislava, 12 December (TASR) - A special House session on energy aid, initiated by opposition MPs, won't take place, as Parliament failed to approve its agenda on Friday, with only 62 of the 140 lawmakers present voting in favour of it.
The session initiators wanted to debate a draft parliamentary resolution concerning Economy Minister Denisa Sakova (Voice-SD) failures in connection with targeted energy aid. In the resolution, they wanted to ask the Slovak government to amend the conditions for eligibility for targeted energy aid within ten days of its adoption.
A motion to convene the special session was filed on Wednesday (10 December) by opposition 'Slovakia' party MPs. They had collected signatures from more than 30 MPs, as required for convening a special House session, with support from other opposition parties. They criticised Sakova and the government of Robert Fico (Smer-SD) for being unable after two years to set up fair energy assistance for those who are truly dependent on it.
"The targeted energy aid promised for two years is an absolute fiasco from which MPs, entrepreneurs and owners of multiple pieces of real estate will also benefit, while employees who honestly pay taxes on their incomes, some seniors and multi-generational households are excluded from such aid," stated the proposal's submitters.
