Bratislava, 11 December (TASR) – The right to a fair trial must apply to everyone, Justice Minister Boris Susko (Smer-SD) stated on social media with respect to the Supreme Court's decision to grant former Special Prosecutor Dusan K [name abbreviated due to legal reasons] a retrail.
Susko noted that he has not yet received the ruling and is commenting only on media reports about the court's conclusions.
"The right to a fair trial must apply to everyone. For this reason, as Justice Minister I exercised my legal authority and filed an extraordinary appeal, in which the Supreme Court ruled in my favour. Dusan K. will again have the opportunity to stand before an independent court – not before the media and opposition politicians, who claim to have clarity even without the courts and were practically jumping out of their skins when I dared to exercise my legal authority," Susko said.
The minister added that he will be able to provide a more detailed statement only after reviewing the full text of the ruling and its reasoning.
The Supreme Court has ruled on the extraordinary appeal lodged by Justice Minister Boris Susko (Smer-SD) in the case of former head of the Special Prosecutor's Office, Dusan K. It annulled the 2022 Supreme Court ruling as well as the 2021 verdict of the Specialised Criminal Court.
The minister filed the extraordinary appeal in summer 2024 in the case of the lawfully convicted former special prosecutor Dusan K., simultaneously suspending his prison sentence until the Supreme Court's decision. In May 2022, the Supreme Court lawfully sentenced Dusan K. to eight years in prison for accepting a bribe and disclosing information from case files, and imposed a fine of €100,000.
