Economy Ministry: Coalition Will Submit Draft Excluding MPs from Energy Aid

Bratislava, 8 December (TASR) - Coalition MPs have decided to submit a proposal that will exclude all MPs from receiving energy subsidies, regardless of whether they voluntarily chose to give them up or not, the Economy Ministry stated on Monday in response to criticism of energy assistance by the opposition. Opposition parties also criticised the fact that MPs are also eligible for energy assistance, as a large part of their income, which consists of lump-sum reimbursements, is not included in their assessed income. "As for MPs and their entitlement to energy assistance, each of them could have applied for a special tariff from their supplier under the law. Based on this tariff, the IT system wouldn't even have taken them into account in the automated calculation," said ministry's spokeswoman Maria Pavlusik. According to the Economy Ministry, the statements made by opposition parties on energy aid are consistent with the destructive style of politics they have been showing since the beginning of the election term. "On the one hand, they demand targeted assistance, but on the other, they immediately criticise at press conferences that state aid is not the same for everyone, which is the very essence of targeted assistance," said the ministry. am
