Bratislava, 27 November (TASR) – The Investment, Regional Development and Informatisation Ministry (MIRRI) and the UN Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat) are joining forces to support the reconstruction of Ukrainian cities. Both sides have confirmed the setting up of a new liaison office – the UN-Habitat Collaboration Hub Kosice – which is set to begin operations in early 2026. MIRRI announced that the Kosice office is being created on the basis of a memorandum of understanding signed on Thursday in Nairobi by Investment, Regional Development and Informatisation Minister Samuel Migal (Independent) and Executive Director of UN-Habitat Anaclaudia Rossbach. "I believe that cooperation between countries can significantly accelerate Ukraine's recovery. Slovakia wants to contribute to this effort with concrete expertise and active engagement. Kosice has ideal conditions to become a centre of regional cooperation and professional support, connecting projects, ideas and experts from Ukraine, Slovakia and other European countries," said Migal. According to the ministry, the new centre will serve as a regional hub for coordinating cooperation between the European Union, Ukraine and Slovakia. It will focus on expert support in spatial planning, regional development, reconstruction of damaged infrastructure, energy and housing. It will also offer a safe space for organising international negotiations outside Ukrainian territory – particularly in cases when travel directly to Kiev isn't possible. mf/df
