Stats: Passenger Transport Up by 7.7 Percent in 3Q25

Bratislava, 27 November (TASR) - As many as 179.3 million passengers were carried by all forms of public transport in the third quarter of this year, an increase of 7.7 percent year-on-year (y-o-y), the Statistics Office reported on Thursday, adding that the increase can be ascribed to road transport.
More than 121 million passengers used public city transport in the third quarter of this year, up 10 percent y-o-y. Suburban and long-distance transport recorded growth in the number of passengers for the second quarter in a row. As many as 35 million passengers made use of this kind of transport, up 5.2 percent y-o-y. Rail transport posted a moderate drop of 0.5 percent in the number of passengers for the first time this year, with almost 18.7 million people using its services in the third quarter.
Nine months into 2025, the number of people who travelled by passenger transport rose by 5.2 percent in total.
The volume of cargo transported in Slovakia in the third quarter of 2025 amounted to 51.3 million tonnes, down 6.4 percent y-o-y. The decline continued for the sixth quarter, slightly accelerating its pace. The overall figure was mainly influenced by an almost 10-percent drop in rail cargo transport. Other freight transport, which includes water, air and pipeline transport, posted a y-o-y decrease of more than 45 percent in the third quarter of 2025.
The volume of goods transported by all forms of cargo transport in the first three quarters of 2025 went down by 7.1 percent y-o-y.
