Bratislava, 25 November (TASR) - President Peter Pellegrini has joined the seventh annual nationwide 'End Violence Against Women' (Orange the World) campaign, which is part of a global UN initiative aimed at raising awareness of and preventing and eliminating violence against women and girls, the President's Office's communications department has informed TASR.
This year's campaign runs from Tuesday (the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women) to 10 December (Human Rights Day). Its main organiser in Slovakia is the Coordination and Methodological Centre for Gender-Based and Domestic Violence (KMC).
Along with ministers, representatives of diplomatic missions in Slovakia and KMC, Pellegrini took part in a symbolic joint photo with the Orange the World banner in the Presidential Garden. The event is part of an annual initiative organised by KMC in cooperation with the Dutch Embassy in Slovakia.
The colour orange, which is used as a visual motif in the campaign, symbolises hope, optimism and a brighter future for women and girls around the world. At the same time, it is a reminder of the fact that violence against women and girls is one of the most widespread human rights violations. The Presidential Palace will be lit up in orange on Tuesday evening as a visible gesture of solidarity and support for all women and girls who need protection, understanding and help.
