Health Ministry Wants to Cooperate with Hungary in Emergency Medical Services

Bratislava, 20 November (TASR) - The Health Ministry wants to cooperate with Hungary in the field of emergency medical services (EMS), according to a draft framework agreement on cross-border cooperation between the countries, which is currently undergoing inter-departmental review.
If approved, the agreement will apply to border areas of the two countries.
"The timely availability of professional pre-hospital emergency medical care in border areas is one of the main reasons for establishing closer cooperation between the neighbouring countries' emergency services," explained the ministry. It specified that urgent medical care at the scene of an incident and the transport of persons in danger of life or health to an appropriate health-care facility will be provided based on evaluation of emergency calls and requests from the contracting party.
"In line with the agreement, emergency medical services should be provided in the event of a mass casualty incidents or a person in a critical condition," said the ministry. It noted that the draft framework agreement is the result of negotiations bewten Slovakia and Hungary, during which the needs of the two countries concerned were defined.
