Bratislava, 19 November (TASR) - The Interior Ministry has sent humanitarian aid to Jamaica, which has been hit by Hurricane Melissa, ministry's communications department told TASR on Wednesday, adding that the country requested international assistance through the European Union Civil Protection Mechanism.
The Interior Ministry provided aid worth almost €12,000.
"The Foreign and European Affairs Ministry actively communicated with the Jamaican Embassy in Berlin and the Honorary Consul of Jamaica in Slovakia in preparation for the aid, and presented the initiative of the Jamaican Diplomatic Mission in the United Kingdom, which set up a collection point in the United Kingdom," stated the ministry.
The ministry further reported that humanitarian aid was transported to London during Parliamentary Chair Richard Rasi's (Voice-SD) working trip. Transport from London to Jamaica will be provided by the recipient of the aid.
