Bratislava, 17 November (TASR) - Trains should again be able to travel at full speed (160 km/h) on the section of railway track near the town of Pezinok (Bratislava region) as of Wednesday (19 November), railway network operator ZSR, which is continuing repairs on the line after the recent train collision, has posted on a social network.
"Technical tests of the train protection system will be carried out on Monday and Tuesday (17-18 November). We assume that trains will be able to run at full track speed again as of Wednesday," said ZSR, adding that a new set of points, i.e. a device that allows a train to move from one track to another, has already been installed.
Two trains collided near Pezinok on 9 November. A REX 1814 train was hit by an Ex 620 train after departing from Pezinok station, reportedly due to one of the trains ignoring a red light. No fatalities were reported, but dozens of passengers were injured. Hospitals treated 79 people, including three with serious chest and abdominal injuries and 60 with minor wounds.
