Bratislava, 16 November (TASR) - The Education Ministry brought artificial intelligence (AI) to one hundred Slovak schools between 1 October and 7 November as part of a nationwide initiative called AI Days, TASR has reported based on information provided by the ministry's communications and marketing department earlier this week. The AI Days are aimed at developing the digital skills of teachers, raising awareness about the opportunities and risks of AI and promoting the responsible and safe use of this technology in educational settings. "AI Days are proof that Slovak schools have the courage to innovate and seek new ways of learning that develop creativity, critical thinking and students' digital readiness for the world of the future," said Education Minister Tomas Drucker (Voice-SD). Of the 289 applications submitted by schools, the 100 best-prepared projects received financial support to organise their AI Days. For a period of six weeks, Slovak schools turned into hubs enabling experimentation, innovation and creative exploration of technologies that open up new horizons in education. The AI Days also featured expert workshops, discussions, presentations and open classes in which teachers were shown how AI can be used in practice. "For preparing and organising the events, the schools received comprehensive methodological support provided by expert consultants, as well as through workshops organised by the National Centre for the Digital Transformation of Education," stated the ministry. The workshops covered topics such as using Microsoft Copilot effectively, transforming static materials into digital and interactive formats using AI, and the use of Google AI tools within the educational process. jrg/df
