CRIF: 29 Firms Filed for Bankruptcy in October, Owing €12.2 million to State

Bratislava, 16 November (TASR) - A total of 29 firms filed for bankruptcy in October, with not a single company being allowed by a court to undergo restructuring, credit-reporting company Slovak Credit Bureau (CRIF) informed the media earlier this week.
A total of 26 limited-liability companies and three joint-stock companies went bankrupt in October. Twelve entities had less than ten employees, one had 10-19, while staff levels for the remaining 16 companies were unknown.
The total sum that the firms going bankrupt owed to the state was over €12.2 million. The liabilities of two firms exceeded the threshold of €1 million and for another two firms they reached even more than €2 million. Bankrupt companies owed more than €11.8 million in taxes, €339,000 to social-insurance provider Socialna poistovna and almost €93,000 to state-run health insurer VsZP.
The record holder on the October list was N-Bonaparte, a real-estate company owned by convicted businessman Ladislav Basternak that stood behind the Bonaparte residential complex. Its tax arrears exceeded €2.4 million, which was the highest sum among all companies going bankrupt in October.
A company called Metal Machinery from Zilina region, which has been operating since 2009, had the largest number of registered employees and sales. While in 2020 its sales exceeded €3.6 million, in 2024 they only amounted to some €1 million.
