Bratislava/Rimavska Sobota, 27 October (TASR) – The current government stands firmly on the side of the people who form the solid foundation of Slovakia's food self-sufficiency, stated Agriculture and Rural Development Minister Richard Takac (Smer-SD) at the general assembly of the Gemer Agricultural and Food Chamber on Monday. The event was held jointly with five Regional Agricultural Chambers from Zvolen, Velky Krtis, Lucenec, Rimavska Sobota and Roznava, the ministry's press department reported. "This government stands with those who work honestly – not speculators, but people who work every day for Slovak food. Together, we're looking for ways to keep our agriculture viable, competitive and self-sufficient," said Takac. According to the ministry, the meeting is focusing on current challenges in the sector, stabilising subsidies and the future direction of Slovakia's agricultural policy. "Every opportunity to meet farmers is important to me. We speak openly about problems, but also about solutions that help honest farmers to move forward,” said the agriculture minister. The discussion with regional representatives also touched on the stability of financial support, protection of agricultural land, young farmers and rural development. The minister expressed appreciation for the fact that the regional chambers are actively engaging in professional discussions and helping to shape realistic, practice-based proposals. "Slovak farmers are the foundation of the country's food security and stability. Together with regional chambers, we want to build an environment in which honest work and domestic production are worthwhile,” added the agriculture minister. mf/df
