Rasi Would Like to Include Fiacan's Address at Next Meeting

Bratislava, 24 October (TASR) - I consider it to be more correct to include the speech of Constitutional Court chair Ivan Fiacan in the session that is to begin on 25 November, Parliamentary Chair Richard Rasi (Voice-SD) told TASR in connection with Fiacan's request to address the House because of the situation with the missing judge at the Constitutional Court. Rasi justified his move on the grounds of the tense and time-sensitive development of the proceedings at the current session. "I fully respect the legal right of the Constitutional Court chair to address Parliament and I want to give his speech due space and attention for this reason. However, the sitting of the current session, which according to the approved schedule should have been concluded today, has been considerably prolonged due to the addition of new items to the agenda and, in particular, due to repeated obstruction of the sitting by the opposition. That's why I consider it to be more correct, given the tense and time-sensitive development of the proceedings of the current sitting, to include the speech of the Constitutional Court chair in the agenda of the next parliamentary sitting," he told TASR. Fiacan asked Parliament for a chance to speak in the House via a letter dated 1 October, 2025. He's concerned about Parliament's inaction regarding the matter of announcing an election of candidates for Constitutional Court judges. Parliament has so far been unable to elect a pair of candidates from whom the head of state would choose a new constitutional judge. MPs have already voted several times, candidates have repeatedly applied for the post, but none of them has yet received the necessary number of votes. The Constitutional Court became incomplete when judge Jana Lassakova resigned from her post in September 2023. am
