Brussels, 23 October (TASR-correspondent) - Premier Robert Fico met German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and his delegation in Brussels on Wednesday (22 October) evening, TASR has learnt from its special correspondent. According to Fico, they concurred that the growing pressure in the European Union will probably contribute to some sort of revision of the planned ban on the sale of cars with combustion engines after 2035. "The German chancellor and I have concluded that the growing pressure will most likely result in some kind of revision of this ban; for example, in the form of continuing the production of hybrid cars," Fico has posted on a social network. The premier stressed that the ties between the Slovak and German economies are so significant that consultations at the level of the executive heads are necessary. Fico also revealed that Merz plans to visit Slovakia and that a date suitable for both sides is currently being sought. In addition to their positions on the automotive industry, the two leaders exchanged information on other stances regarding the European Council meeting taking place in Brussels on Thursday. Fico also informed Merz about the course of the joint Slovak-Ukrainian government session held in Kosice on 17 October and about the recent amendment to the Slovak Constitution. ko/df
