Police Launch Proceedings Regarding Fatal Traffic Accident in Margecany

Margecany, 22 October (TASR) - The police have commenced criminal proceedings concerning the offence of manslaughter in connection with a traffic accident in the village of Margecany (Kosice region) on Tuesday (21 October) that claimed the life of a 14-year-old boy sitting next to a 13-year-old driver, Kosice Region Police spokesperson Lenka Ivanova told TASR on Wednesday. The two boys had taken the car from the grandfather of one of them. It was driven by the younger of the boys through the Rolova Huta part of the village along a class III road beside the Ruzin reservoir. The car veered off the road, skidded, and crashed into a high-voltage pole made of concrete. The impact threw the car back onto the road, with the passenger succumbing to his injuries at the scene. "The driver was taken to hospital by paramedics and, according to a preliminary medical report, suffered injuries requiring 14 days of treatment," said Ivanova. The police have appealed to parents and grandparents not to leave car keys in places where children can get hold of them easily. jrg/df
