Bratislava, 22 October (TASR) - The Wednesday's session of the Slovak parliament opened with a debate on a proposal to update Slovakia's military representation to the EU and NATO, which was presented by Defence Minister Robert Kalinak (Smer-SD), TASR reported on the same day.
"The military representation of the Slovak Republic to EU and NATO bodies remains within the limits approved back in 2024. However, within this limit, we propose adding three military representations, with a total of six professional soldiers, to the commands in Bydgoszcz, Brussels and Wiesbaden," he said, noting that the proposal aims to expand the options for the presence of the Slovak Armed Forces.
"It reflects Slovakia's needs in terms of implementing transformational changes, applicable international commitments towards NATO and EU allies, and bilateral agreements with partners. Expanding the military representation is also linked to the implementation of defence and deterrence measures at NATO's eastern flank," explained the Defence Ministry.
