Bratislava, 21 October (TASR) - The parliament definitively approved on Tuesday an amendment to the Electronic Communications Act, transposing into Slovak law the 2018 recast of the EU directive establishing the European Electronic Communications Code.
In the past, the Electronic Communications Act transposed the 2014 directive on measures to reduce the cost of deploying high-speed electronic communications networks. Since then, however, this directive has been repealed by the 2024 regulation on measures to reduce the cost of deploying gigabit electronic communications networks.
"It is necessary to respond to this situation through legislative changes and amendments to the Electronic Communications Act, so that there are no doubts in practice about which legislative framework should apply and how," explained the Transport Ministry.
The purpose of this piece of legislation is to further reduce the costs of building high-capacity electronic communications networks. The amendment also clarifies certain provisions of the Act and introduces several technical and legislative adjustments. Furthermore, cooperation mechanisms between telecommunications operators and the police in detecting fraudulent calls is improved.
