Abu Dhabi, 19 October (TASR) - Prime Minister Robert Fico (Smer-SD) has left for the United Arab Emirates (UAE), where he and his government delegation will hold official talks with the country's top officials on Monday (20 October) and will also meet with President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, expecting significant investment impulses for Slovakia from the talks, TASR reports based on the report of the Government Office's press and information department and premier's official profile on a social network.
"Slovakia needs investment, we need to support economic growth in 2026. That's why, as part of Slovakia's sovereign foreign affairs policy oriented in all four cardinal directions, we're looking for all opportunities for cooperation," Fico said in a video on the social network.
"The United Arab Emirates is a federative country guaranteeing stability and prosperity in the region. It is a state with fantastic innovative approaches, but at the same time a country that cares very, very much about its own identity, sovereignty and the traditions on which it was founded," stated Fico, adding that there are thus "many common points between the policies of Slovakia and the UAE, which is a prerequisite for friendly and mutually beneficial cooperation".
In the video, Fico thanked UAE leaders for their "fantastic welcome and hospitality" and expressed his hope that President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan will soon visit Slovakia.
According to the premier, it will be a very short visit and he'll arrive back in Bratislava on Monday afternoon.
