Bratislava, 19 October (TASR) - The Economic University in Bratislava (EUBA) this week commemorated 85 years since it was founded as the University of Business. Since 1940, EUBA has developed into a modern university with an emphasis on linking education, research and practice. The EUBA assembly hall hosted a gathering of university representatives, representatives of the academic and public spheres and partners to mark the occasion. Rector Ferdinand Dano stressed the importance of the legacy of the university's founders as well as its current status. According to him, the university has achieved many successes. "The most significant for us was obtaining international AACSB accreditation from the American Accreditation Association, but that's not the end of that. That accreditation commits us to new challenges," he noted, describing the implementation of modern quality education and linking education with practice as his vision. Emphasis on the field of science and research as well as publishing in reputed journals and databases also form part of this. The ceremony also included the presentation of awards to outstanding figures and teams that have contributed to developing the university. The laureates received the Imrich Karvas Medal [named after the first governor of Slovakia's central bank] from the rector, with former and current deans of EUBA faculties also being awarded for their outstanding contribution to developing the university. In addition, the rector presented awards for outstanding contributions to developing academic self-government, supporting the academic community and active cooperation, along with awards for outstanding sporting achievements and those for developing cooperation with practice. am/df
