GIB EnergyX to Launch Battery Plant Construction in Surany

Surany/Bratislava, 18 October (TASR) – GIB EnergyX Slovakia is launching the construction of a battery cell manufacturing plant in Surany, with a ceremonial groundbreaking of the factory in the Surany Industrial Park scheduled for 28 October. "This moment symbolises the connection between industry, regions, and education, which together will create a new technological hub for the future of energy," said Steven Cai, the President of Gotion EMEA and chair of the Board of GIB EnergyX Slovakia. Since August this year, the company has been carrying out preparatory work on its nearly 94-hectare site. These works include major earthworks, the construction of a temporary intersection on the road I/64, and an access road to the construction site. Previously, the company successfully completed geological and geotechnical work, including drilling, surveys, and soil testing required for structural and design planning. The environmental impact assessment (EIA) process is still ongoing. Based on the scope defined by the Environment Ministry, the investor is preparing all required expert studies. Once submitted, a public hearing will follow, allowing the people and the local community to learn more about the process and the assessment results. GIB EnergyX Slovakia's total investment is estimated at approximately €1.2 billion. Construction of the plant will begin with phase 1.1, which will have a production capacity of 10 gigawatt-hours. Pilot production is scheduled for September 2026, with full-scale operations expected to launch during 2027. The first phase will create approximately 1,500 new jobs, making the battery plant one of the largest employers in the region.
