Uhrovec, 18 October (TASR) - The village of Uhrovec in the district of Banovce nad Bebravou (Trencin region) will mark the 210th anniversary of birth of politician, linguist and its native Ludovit Stur on October 25 with a commemorative event that will include a ceremonial service and a historical procession, said Vladimira Tomaskova from the municipal office. "We'll commemorate this significant anniversary - the 210th anniversary of Stur's birth - with a cultural programme, the laying of wreaths at his monument, and other accompanying activities, by which we'll pay tribute to one of the most significant figures in Slovak history," said Tomaskova. The programme will begin at 10 a.m. with a service led by Ivan Elko, general bishop of the Evangelical Church of the Augsburg Confession in Slovakia. This will be followed by welcoming the participants in a Modra-Uhrovec cycle ride and a historical procession including a musical and dramatic performance entitled 'Ludovit in His Birthplace', featuring Uhrovcan and Bukovina folklore ensembles and the Gallery Theatre. A ceremonial gathering will take place at the Ludovit Stur monument at 2.30 p.m., with the laying of wreaths and a performance by the Danubius Octet Singers conducted by Daniel Simandl. A visit to the family home of Ludovit Stur and Alexander Dubcek [who were born in the same house - ed. note] will take place in the afternoon, followed by a concert by the Poluvska muzika ensemble and the Ludo Kuruc band. ko/df/am
