Kosice, 17 October (TASR) - A Ukrainian school might be founded in Slovakia, Slovak Premier Robert Fico (Smer-SD) and Ukrainian Premier Yulia Svyrydenko indicated before the joint session of the Slovak and Ukrainian Cabinets on Friday.
The Ukrainian premier came up with the idea in her opening speech. She praised the help that Slovaks have provided to Ukrainians seeking refuge from the war. According to Svyrydenko, a Ukrainian school would be another step forward in cooperation and would serve as proof of the closeness between the two countries. "It would be a very strong signal for Ukraine and for our common roadmap of joint projects and cooperation between the two countries," she said.
The Slovak premier welcomed the idea of establishing a Ukrainian school, and asked representatives of the Slovak Education Ministry to address this issue at a ministerial meeting with their Ukrainian peers on Friday. Fico followed up on the idea by pointing to the need for qualified workers for Slovak industry. "Thanks to the language proximity, this could also be the subject of strategic cooperation between Slovakia and Ukraine, plus the possibility of creating an institutional framework that would allow people from Ukraine, if interested, to obtain standard conditions, like Slovak employees. I think that the school could serve as the beginning of such an effort," stated Fico.
Svyrydenko praised the continuation of the dialogue between the Slovak and Ukrainian governments, confirming that the issues of energy security and securing energy resources, infrastructure projects and the area of international cooperation in Ukraine's integration efforts will be high on the agenda of the joint government session. In addition to assessing progress in the steps agreed so far, she expects the two delegations to set their immediate goals.
