Bratislava, 16 October (TASR) - The public space of Hviezdoslav Square in Bratislava is hosting the 14th annual Slovak Press Photo 2025 exhibition, which is once again presenting authentic testimonies about life and events in society as seen by photo-journalists from Slovakia and Eastern Europe.
TASR news agency again scored points in the journalistic photography contest this year. In the sports category, first place went to TASR photo-journalist and head of its photo desk Michal Svitok for his photograph called 'Wrestling?' The finalists also included photo-journalists Martin Baumann and Jaroslav Novak. The 2025 Grand Prix Slovak Press Photo was won by Tomas Barsvary with his photograph of Pope Leo XIV.
The authors will hold a guided tour of the exhibition at 5 p.m. on Thursday, relating interesting stories about the origin of their exhibited work. Michal Svitok will also present a behind-the-scenes look at his work to visitors. His winning photograph was taken during the semi-final contests at the European Wrestling Championships in Samorin (Trnava region) in April. Svitok was also a finalist in the nature and environment category, in which he succeeded with a photo of the partially dried-up Liptovska Mara dam.
Following the guided tour of the exhibition, a meeting with the photographers will take place at 6 p.m. in the Gallery of the Slovak Press Photo foundation at Frantiskanske Square 7, where the categories 'students', 'short video' and a new subcategory 'forests' are being presented.
The winning photographs of the 14th annual Slovak Pres Photo and the works of the finalists of the journalistic photography contest will be showcased on Hviezdoslav Square until Sunday, 19 October.
