Blanar: Foreign National among Injured in Train Collision in Kosice Region

Bratislava, 13 October (TASR) – A foreign national was among those treated following a collision between two express trains near the village of Jablonov nad Turnou (Kosice region) on Monday, Foreign and European Affairs Minister Juraj Blanar (Smer-SD) posted on social media on the same day. Blanar stated that he had a phone call with Interior Minister Matus Sutaj Estok (Voice–SD) to receive updates on the situation. "The minister provided me with detailed information about the action taken and the care provided not only to Slovak citizens, but, based on the latest information, to one foreign national as well," said Blanar. He wished a speedy recovery to those injured and thanked rescue services for their professional work. "I believe that the circumstances of the accident will be thoroughly investigated in order to help prevent such incidents in the future," he added. Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto also called Blanar to express solidarity and offer Hungary's assistance. "I thanked Hungary for its solidarity and support and informed Minister Szijjarto that care for all the injured and operations at the site are being fully provided by Slovak rescue services," the Slovak minister stated. The collision occurred shortly after 10:00 a.m. near Jablonov nad Turnou. According to Health Minister Kamil Sasko (Voice–SD), seven people are in a critical condition, while 14 sustained moderate injuries and 70 were slightly injured. A total of 91 individuals received medical treatment. Rail traffic between Jablonov nad Turnou and Roznava has been suspended. mf/df
