Bratislava/Jablonov nad Turnou, 13 October (TASR) - Opposition parties have wished a speedy recovery to those injured in the express train collision that took place near the village of Jablonov nad Turnou in Roznava district (Kosice region) on Monday, expressing their hope that the accident will not claim any lives.
Progressive Slovakia (PS) leader Michal Simecka described the collision as a terrible tragedy.
"Most of all, I now hope that there are no fatalities and that the injured recover as quickly as possible. The accident must then be thoroughly investigated, and politics must take a back seat," said Simecka.
The Freedom and Solidarity (SaS) party stated on a social network that its thoughts are with all those who were involved in the rail disaster, and it wished all those injured a swift return to health.
Christian Democratic Movement (KDH) leader Milan Majersky thanked all the responders who are risking their lives to help the injured and wished a speedy recovery to everyone injured in the train crash near Roznava.
Julius Jakab from the 'Slovakia' - For the People caucus also expressed gratitude to the rescue teams for their immediate assistance.
"May this terrifying collision of two express trains in eastern Slovakia end without loss of life, and may the injuries be as minor as possible," Jakab wrote on social media.
The collision between the two express trains took place shortly after 10 a.m. near a tunnel in the vicinity of the village of Jablonov nad Turnou, at a point where tracks intersect and merge into a single track. Firefighters, police and paramedics are all on the scene, including with two rescue helicopters. Interior Minister Matus Sutaj Estok (Voice-SD) said earlier that around 100 people sustained minor injuries and two are in critical condition, while three people remain trapped, with no information yet available about their condition.
