Bratislava, 10 October (TASR) - The Slovak Republic has re-established a representative office in Canberra with accreditation for the Commonwealth of Australia, New Zealand and six more Pacific states, Foreign Ministry's communications department told TASR on Friday, adding that Slovakia is sending there Ambassador Monika Tomasovicova.
"Australia is an important foreign policy partner of Slovakia at both bilateral and multilateral levels. We're united by our orientation towards traditional allies of the North Atlantic Alliance and also towards countries of the Indo-Pacific region, such as India, Indonesia, Japan and South Korea," said Foreign and European Affairs Minister Juraj Blanar (Smer-SD).
The new ambassador said that the two countries share the same values and principles of democracy, the rule of law and human rights, together with the promotion of the principles of functioning multilateralism and international order. She also pointed to their close positions on key foreign policy issues. "In addition, Australia has a large expatriate community, which has significant potential for the further development of Slovak-Australian relations," she added.
