Bratislava, 4 October (TASR) – According to preliminary data, agriculture achieved a positive pre-tax profit of €181.4 million last year, the Agriculture and Rural Development Ministry stated in its so-called 2024 green report, which the government approved this week.
In a year-on-year comparison, the financial result was 15.8 percent higher and was mainly influenced by the record volume of subsidies paid to agricultural entities.
"Support and subsidies make up a significant part of the revenues of agricultural enterprises; without them, most enterprises would be loss-making. The total volume of financial support for Slovak agriculture increased by 66.4 percent year-on-year to €1.345 billion. The share of total support in agricultural revenues increased year-on-year to 31 percent, of which direct payments accounted for 14 percent," wrote the ministry in its report.
The Agriculture Ministry added that total agricultural revenues in 2024 rose by 6.9 percent year-on-year to €4.376 billion. Costs increased by 6.5 percent year-on-year to €4.195 billion.
