Bratislava, 1 October (TASR) – A total of 200 kilometres of cycle routes will be constructed across Slovakia by the end of 2026, Transport Minister Jozef Raz (nominee of Smer-SD) announced during a press conference held in the presence of Bratislava mayor Matus Vallo to mark the reconstruction of the combined cycling and walking Ostruzinova Trail in the capital city. „By the end of our administration, that is by the end of 2026, a total of 200 kilometres of cycle routes will be completed and handed over across Slovakia," said Raz, noting that there is strong interest in cycling infrastructure in every region. According to Raz, the third call for cycling projects from the Transport Ministry has reached its conclusion, and the ministry no longer has additional funds in the current programming period to finance new routes. He advised local authorities to seek support from the Ministry of Investment, Regional Development and Informatisation, which will have alternative funding options for such projects. Mayor Vallo added that, thanks to support from the Ministry of Transport and funding from the Recovery and Resilience Plan, more than 15 kilometres of cycle routes have already been built or will be completed soon in Bratislava. The main goal is to enable safer and more comfortable movement across the capital. He highlighted as the most significant project this year the six-kilometre Petrzalka cycling corridor, constructed alongside tram line no. 3 in the Petrzalka district. mf/mcs
