Bratislava, 1 October (TASR) – MPs on Wednesday rejected a resolution, submitted by opposition lawmakers from Progressive Slovakia (PS), Freedom and Solidarity (SaS), and Christian Democrats (KDH), on Slovakia's foreign policy orientation.
They wanted Parliament to confirm that NATO and the EU are Slovakia's vital space as well as to call for cooperation with our closest partners.
In the resolution, the opposition also wanted to declare that Slovakia is a reliable and predictable ally. They also proposed that the House should declare that "the actions of politicians leading to the international isolation of the Slovak Republic, the disruption of good relations with neighbours, and the deterioration of the Slovak Republic's position within the EU significantly harm the interests of its citizens."
Parliament should have also confirmed that Slovakia's sovereign foreign policy must be in line with the international commitments of the Slovak Republic towards our allies. Via the resolution, Parliament should have called on the government to actively promote and defend fundamental values and commitments in foreign policy.
