Poprad/Bratislava, 29 September (TASR) – A new urban park was officially opened on Monday in the town of Poprad, in the presence of Investment Minister Samuel Migal (independent), with the 21,000-square-metre green space revitalised with funding from the European Union’s structural funds, TASR learnt on Monday. According to Poprad mayor Anton Danko, the total cost of the project reached approximately €2 million, with the city contributing around €200,000 from its own budget. The construction took place in the Juh II area over the course of four months. Originally budgeted at over €2.5 million, a public procurement process reduced the cost by about €600,000. „The park is equipped with a surveillance system comprising 14 cameras, new lighting, benches, two children’s playgrounds, a workout area, a dog zone, and extensive greenery,” said Danko. He stressed that without EU funding, the city would not have been able to finance such a project. „Poprad is the gateway to the High Tatras [mountain range], and this is good news not only for visitors, but also for the local community. This is a tangible example of how EU support contributes to development. I firmly believe investments in this type of infrastructure are worth it — you can clearly see value for money,” minister Migal stated. mf/mcs
