Bratislava, 26 September (TASR) - Friday's adoption of an amendment to the Constitution is a historic moment that ensures that our culture, identity and ethics now stand on a solid legal basis, Culture Minister Martina Simkovicova (a Slovak National Party/SNS nominee) has posted on a social network. The minister also expressed the view that the amendment was both a necessary response and proof of the absurdity of the current time. "Progressivism has led us to a situation in which we have to enshrine in the Constitution the biological fact that we know two genders," she stressed, also highlighting amendments to the key issues of upbringing and adoption. "As a woman and a mother, I particularly appreciate that the Constitution now protects the interests of children and families," she added. Earlier in the day, Parliament approved an amendment enshrining in the Constitution a definition of two genders – male and female. The amendment also introduces a guarantee of equality between men and women in terms of pay for work performed, further addressing child adoption and the educational process. am/df
