Vasecka: We'll Support Good Proposals Regardless of Who Submits Them

Bratislava, 26 September (TASR) – If a proposal is good and aligns with our programme, we'll support it regardless of who submits it, stated opposition MP Richard Vasecka ('Slovakia'-For the People-Christian Union alliance), who voted in favour of the government's amendment to the Constitution on Friday.
Vasecka is a member of the Christian Union, which had announced its support for the proposal in advance.
"If a proposal is good and in line with our programme, we'll support it regardless of who submits it. We're in Parliament to promote good things for people, not to defeat the other side at any cost," said Vasecka.
In its statement, the Christian Union also expressed its disappointment that Prime Minister Robert Fico (Smer-SD) put the constitutional amendment to a vote even though he knew two votes were apparently lacking for its adoption.
"Back in 2019, when Smer submitted a constitutional amendment on the pension age cap, they were willing to postpone the vote until 90 votes were secured through negotiations. It is therefore questionable whether Robert Fico really cared about the approval of this constitutional amendment," the party added.
The Christian Union also stated that some MPs gave in to what it called the "progressive pressure" that one should not vote with Fico.
