Bratislava, 21 September (TASR) - The building renovation sector in Slovakia is facing serious challenges, according to a survey by the 'Buildings for the Future' platform conducted in August 2025 among its members - companies and associations operating in the construction, energy and building material sectors. The results point to a decline in orders, the threat of a further downturn and pressure that is forcing some companies to move their activities outside Slovakia. The survey has shown that up to 66.7 percent of the respondents have seen a decline in building renovation contracts over the last twelve months. A slight decrease was reported by 37.8 percent and a significant decrease by 28.9 percent of the respondents. This trend is confirmed by expectations for the coming months, with almost half of firms (46.7 percent) anticipating a lack of contracts due to public programmes such as EU fund calls and programmes called 'Renew House' and 'Green Households' coming to an end. The survey also showed the risk of business activities leaving Slovakia - 28.9 percent of the surveyed companies have already moved part of their activities abroad, and 13.3 percent are considering this move. "This trend may have a long-term negative impact on the state's economy and employment. Every euro invested brings a multiplier effect via jobs, higher employment in construction and related sectors, GDP growth and energy savings for households. At a time when Slovakia needs to consolidate public finances and at the same time boost economic growth, building renovation is one of the most effective ways to achieve these goals," said director of the 'Buildings for the Future' platform Katarina Nikodemova. am/df
