Pellegrini to Depart for USA on Saturday to Attend 80th UNGA Session

Bratislava, 19 September (TASR) - Slovak President Peter Pellegrini will travel to New York on Saturday (20 September) to attend the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) held under the theme "Better Together", with Foreign Affairs Minister Juraj Blanar also being part of the official delegation, the Presidential Office's communications department informed TASR on Friday. The session will focus on more efficient multilateralism, global cooperation and solidarity in addressing challenges. The general debate will be opened on Tuesday (23 September) and the Slovak head of state is expected to deliver his speech on Wednesday (24 September) in the evening local time. On the same day, Pellegrini will also attend the Crimea Platform's 5th summit together with other leaders to reaffirm the UN member states' commitment to the principles of the UN Charter, including respect for territorial integrity and the preservation of peace. Pellegrini will hold talks with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and President of the 80th UN General Assembly Annalena Baerbock, as well as other partners. He will attend a reception hosted by Austria on the occasion of its candidacy for the UN Security Council, as well as a reception hosted by US President Donald Trump to mark the 80th anniversary of the UN General Assembly. In New Jersey, Pellegrini will meet with Slovak expatriates and attend the 47th Slovak Heritage Festival, as well as a concert showcasing Slovakia's cultural scene titled "Slovaks in Concert". Furthermore, in the premises of Slovakia's Permanent Mission to the UN, he will unveil the Jan Papanek relief depicting Czechoslovakia's first permanent representative to the UN who, according to the Presidential Office, symbolises the values on which Slovakia's foreign policy is built. With Slovak professionals working abroad, the president will also join a discussion during the Slovak Pro 2025 summit on Slovakia's future and opportunities for cooperation in the country's development. jrg
