Bratislava, 18 September (TASR) - Labour, Social Affairs and the Family Minister Erik Tomas (Voice-SD) presented the Social Act of the Year 2024 award on Thursday, with Parliamentary Chair Richard Rasi (Voice-SD) and Labour Ministry State Secretary Marian Valentovic in attendance.
The minister honoured 19 individuals and one team who contributed to improving the social conditions of disadvantaged groups in Slovakia.
"The state isn't something abstract, it is represented by specific people in specific places, in specific offices, who with their approach and professionalism seek solutions for people in need of help," said the House chair.
The labour minister awarded prizes in three categories, with the first one belonging to the awarded employees of social-legal protection of children, who provide services to families with children in difficult life situations.
Another award-winning group was the staff of family centres, who create a safe and supportive environment for children growing up outside their biological families.
The last category was the Social Act of the Year award itself, which had a total of six winners. In this group, people who helped the socially disadvantaged in a crisis situation or created a new solution where it was most needed were awarded.
"The examples of today's laureates testify to the fact that a person is not only made up of muscles, bones and organs, but also of the soul represented by the heart. So these people prove this immensely, including our colleagues from different offices but we also had a little girl here helping her disabled brother. These are great stories," added Tomas.
