Bratislava, 17 September (TASR) – President Peter Pellegrini received Supreme Court chair Frantisek Mozner at the Presidential Palace on Wednesday, with Mozner presenting the court's current priorities to the head of state.
The Supreme Court head informed Pellegrini, for example, about the fact the court has managed to provide stabilisation contributions for administrative staff, and he added that his priority is to create conditions that will make the Supreme Court an attractive place for both judges and administrative staff.
"This isn't only specific to the Slovak Republic; interest in the judicial profession is declining throughout Europe, and it's necessary to take measures to reverse this trend so that there will be someone to make judgements in the future and the courts can function," he said.
Mozner noted that the Supreme Court is working on renovating its headquarters, which, according to a preliminary agreement, it will share with the Supreme Administrative Court.
The president confirmed at the meeting open communication on current issues in the judiciary and expressed his support for any effort to improve its quality and provide better financial and personnel support for the courts. Pellegrini reiterated that an independent judiciary is one of the fundamental pillars of a democratic and modern state and that it is essential for this pillar to be strong and stable. In his view, the courts must be an authority trusted by the public.
