Hygienists Detect Two New Cases of Hepatitis A in Lucenec District

Lucenec, 16 September (TASR) - The Regional Public Health Office in Lucenec has detected two new active cases of viral hepatitis A (VHA) in Lucenec district in the past week - one in the town of Lucenec and another in the village of Cakanovce (both Banska Bystrica region), the office has reported on its website.
Hygienists recorded the first case of hepatitis A in Lucenec in one adult. "The case was not epidemiologically related to confirmed positive cases of VHA in the town of Filakovo (Banska Bystrica region) and the surrounding villages," said the regional health office. In another new case, in the village of Cakanovce, the disease has been recorded in a person over 65 years of age, and an epidemiological link with previous cases in the district has been confirmed.
In Lucenec district, health inspectors have reported a total of 16 new cases of hepatitis A in the past week. There are currently seven active outbreaks and three inactive centres of VHA in Lucenec district.
