Bratislava, 15 September (TASR) – Bratislava Transport Company (DPB) is initiating a major renewal of its fleet of articulated buses, planning to purchase 80 new SOR NS 18 diesel-powered buses, each with a capacity of up to 177 passengers, TASR has learnt from DPB spokesperson Jozef Vozar.
The investment, worth over €31 million excluding VAT, is being financed via a loan.
Vozar added that the company has also ordered eight articulated buses powered by compressed natural gas (CNG) and ten unidirectional trams.
"The new buses will bring not only increased comfort but also the latest technologies. From a safety perspective, these include pedestrian and cyclist collision warnings, blind-spot elimination systems, protection against cyber attacks and intelligent speed control," said Vozard.
The buses will also be equipped with driver drowsiness and distraction warning systems. They will feature engines compliant with the Euro 6e emission standard, so they are more environmentally friendly than the older Euro 5 models. All vehicles will be air-conditioned.
Under the new arrangement, warranty inspections and service operations will be carried out by the supplier. "The interiors will be fitted with stainless steel handrails and poles, USB sockets, WiFi connectivity, a camera system and an automatic passenger counting system. A modern real-time information system with transfer options and a colour external display are also standard," the spokesman added.
The bus purchase is the result of a public procurement process held in October 2024 that was won by SOR Libchavy. The new vehicles should be delivered according to a framework agreement no later than 12 months from the placement of the order.
