Bratislava, 13 September (TASR) - M.R. Stefanik Airport in Bratislava processed a total of 355,658 passengers this August, which is the highest-ever figure for the month in the airport's history, airport spokesperson Veronika Demovicova reported earlier this week, adding that the result is 11-percent higher than in the same month of last year. Demovicova noted that before the coronavirus pandemic, Bratislava airport never managed to surpass the threshold of 350,000 passengers handled in a single month. The highest figure was previously registered in July 2018 at over 349,000 passengers. "This year we surpassed the magic level for the second time - in July with almost 359,000 passengers, which was an all-time monthly record, and subsequently in August with over 355,000 passengers. We processed more than 714,000 people for arrivals and departures solely in two holiday months," said airport director Dusan Novota. In August, passengers took flights from Bratislava most often for destinations such as Antalya (Turkey), London (both Stansted and Luton airports), Burgas (Bulgaria), Larnaca (Cyprus) and Hurghada (Egypt). "The record growth this year can be ascribed to seven new regular air routes that were launched for the summer flight schedule, as well as irregular charter flights ordered by travel agencies," added Novota. A total of 3,533 flights at the airport were recorded in the eighth month of this year, up 3 percent year-on-year. Air cargo transport increased by almost two thirds (64 percent) when compared to August 2024, reaching 1,358 tonnes. ko/df/mf
