Bratislava, 10 September (TASR) - Slovakia's industrial output fell by an accelerated rate to 4.6 percent year-on-year (y-o-y) in July, following the 3.6 percent seen in June 2025, the Statistics Office reported on Wednesday.
Industry thus posted a y-o-y output drop for the fourth month in a row. Production in this key sector of the Slovak economy was lower y-o-y for the sixth time this year, with the only exception being in March.
The figure in July was negatively affected by lower outputs in two thirds of industrial branches. Ten of the 15 monitored branches of industry reported y-o-y declines in output in July. The most significant impact on industrial output in July was produced by an over 12-percent y-o-y drop in metal production, with an output going down for the third consecutive month.
Electricity and gas supply output was almost 18-percent lower y-o-y in July, with the second-most significant impact on the overall result. Overall developments were also adversely affected by an over 11-percent fall in the production of machinery and equipment and a more than 3-percent decline in the key automotive production sector, which posted lower y-o-y output for only the second time this year.
Meanwhile, the overall output figure was positively influenced by almost 16-percent growth in other production, which had the fifth-most significant impact on the overall development of industry in July. The figure for July was also positively influenced by an over 20-percent increase in the production of coke and petroleum products and in the production of computer products.
After seasonal adjustments, industrial output rose by 0.9 percent month-on-month (m-o-m).
In the first seven months of 2025, industrial output in Slovakia shrank by 2.2 percent y-o-y. Eight of the 15 monitored sectors recorded lower y-o-y outputs. The result was still most significantly influenced by more than 6-percent growth in the production of means of transport.
