Evacuation of Residents Currently Underway in Part of Bratislava Centre

Bratislava, 9 September (TASR) - Residents of a part of the Bratislava centre are currently being evacuated due to the discovery of an unexploded World War II bomb, the police have announced on a social network, asking people to leave the premises of buildings on the affected streets, particularly on Mlynske Nivy, Kosicka, Landererova, Pribinova, Dostojevskeho rad and Karadzicova Streets.
"We're asking the residents to leave the buildings by 9 a.m. at the latest, to stay calm and follow police instructions," said the police.
The evacuation of residents of the affected streets should be completed by 9 a.m. Subsequently, the police will close the surrounding roads to all traffic. The traffic restrictions will also apply to public city transport. Pyrotechnic works should be carried out between 9 a.m. and 12 p.m.
The munition was discovered on Monday (September 8) evening during the excavation works at a construction site near the intersection of Landererova and Culenova streets. Police and bomb disposal experts were called to the scene. They determined that it was an aerial bomb from the WWII. The bomb was secured for further disposal. Police assured the residents that they were not in danger.
