Bratislava, 8 September (TASR) – Saturday's (6 September) supplementary municipal elections were carried out without any issues, Deputy Interior Minister Michal Kalinak announced on Monday following his meeting with members of the state election commission.
"Local governments, in coordination with the state, successfully managed Saturday's supplementary elections, during which no technical or organisational problems emerged. Next year, we face regular municipal elections as well as regional elections. By then, we must amend the legislation on so-called non-functional municipalities, as the current law is insufficient in this regard. This was confirmed by 11 municipalities in which no candidates ran for the post of mayor or local councillor," stated Kalinak.
Supplementary municipal elections took place in 33 towns and villages on Saturday. Voters elected a total of 13 mayors, 21 local councillors and two city councillors.
